New impressive record for MEHMAS with a double of G1 performances in a day and a total of 6 Stakes performances in a week. Two-year-old SCORTHY CHAMP battled hard to land the G1 National Stakes at the Curragh, Ireland on September, 15. Bred by Healthy Wood Co., he is now a G1 winner out of three starts only, with a third place in the Futurity Stakes a month earlier.
A moment later, MEHMAS' consistent daughter BELIEVING confirmed her G1 Nunthorpe Stakes second from last month in the G1 Flying Five Stakes when finishing runner-up. Bred by M. Mullen and Cloneymore Farm, she is now a triple G1 performer.
Our Tally-Ho Stud-resident also recorded a triple of Group performances in a day with his juveniles on September, 13. AESTERIUS landed his second consecutive Group victory in the G2 Childers Stakes at Doncaster, UK during the St Leger Festival, with MEHMAS’ MAGNUM FORCE back in third. Both aged two, AESTERIUS was bred by Sean Maguire while MAGNUM FORCE was bred by Sheikh Abdulla Bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
A moment later on the same racecourse, two-year-old THE WACO KID finished third in the Listed Scotsman Stakes in a battling finish for breeder Tally-Ho Stud. MISS FASCINATOR joined the danse on the same day when finishing runner-up in the G3 Filliers’ Stakes on her first attempt at the highest level for breeder Stephen Sullivan.
Sixth Stakes performance of the week was in France with VERTICAL BLUE finishing second in the Listed Critérium de Lyon on her first attempt at the highest level. She is a two-year-old filly bred by Haras du Mont-dit-Mont.
MEHMAS’ juveniles were also well represented with two maiden tags broken. Bred by Owenstown Bloodstock, CASSANDRAALEXANDRA opened her winning account at Brighton, UK in a handicap race on September, 9 while Corduff Stud and Farmleigh Bloodstock-bred JALIYAH made her third start a lucky one at Cork, Ireland on September, 11.
Last of the winning serie for MEHMAS was a double of winners on September, 14 on both sides of the Channel. Three-year-old PITNEY secured a second career-win at Chester, UK for Haras du Saubouas and F. Bragato, and JUGANDO posted a sixth career-win at Mont-de-Marsan, France for European Bloodstock Management.
Stakes performance also celebrated for our Haras de Bouquetot-based ZELZAL courtesy of GURZUF. Dual winner over hurdles, he finished second in the Listed Prix Jean Bart at Auteuil, France on September 10 on his first attempt at highest level, beaten only by ¾ of a length. Aged five, he was bred by V. Tymoshenko.
In South of France, our stallion was represented by two-year-old SPANISH PRINCE who broke his maiden tag at first asking on September, 14 at Mont-de-Marsan for H. Mestrallet and JF Caron. He showed encouraging potentiel on his first outing, giving his connections a reason to look forward to his next steps on the track. Three-year-old WELCOME CHARLY secured his second career-win at Salon-de-Provence on September, 9 for E. Lemaitre and JV Toux.
Last of the serie was OLYMPIC GLORY’s FELIX FELICIS who opened his winning account at Le Lion d’Angers, France on September, 15 for breeders A and S. Martin.
Congratulations to all respective connections!
