Weekly round-up January, 6

Our stallions kicked off the new racing season with a string of successes, led by MEHMAS, who registered a new Group performance as early as January 3. COLOUR UP followed his Listed victory on December 8 with a strong second place in the G3 Dubawi Stakes over six miles at Meydan, UAE. On the same day, three-year-old MEHMIST claimed victory over 1,300 meters at Deauville, France, for breeders Haras d’Etreham and Katelanis Bloodstock, while SECRET STRENGTH made a triumphant seasonal comeback at Lingfield, UK, securing his fourth career win for Austin Lyons.

PURE LEGEND closed out his juvenile campaign with a victory at Chantilly, France, on December 30, scoring over 1,600 meters for breeders H. and V. Devin.

 

At Haras de Bouquetot, ROMANISED ended 2024 ranked among the top three first-crop sires in France, with 24.44% of his 45 runners finding the winner’s circle, amassing €348,829 in prizemoney. He began the new year on a high note, celebrating a 13rd winner courtesy of MIKEY, who broke his maiden at Marseille-Pont de Vivaux, France, on January 2.

 

ZELZAL ended 2024 with three-year-old ZELORO who defeated 13 rivals at Chantilly, France to win a 1,600 meter handicap race, his second success of the year for Ecurie Biraben and A. Gilibert. 2025 started at Cagnes-sur-Mer, France on January, 5 with V. Tymoshenko-bred GURZUF finishing strong runner-up in the Listed Grande Course de Haies de Cagnes, only defeated by 7/4 lenghts in a thrilling finish.

 

OLYMPIC GLORY was represented at Marseille-Pont de Vivaux on January, 2nd with IDEE DE CHEVAL, bred by Mrs J.L. Giral who landed her second career win in a 1,500-meter handicap. Two days later, LE GAST, bred by Franklin Finance, secured a victory over 2,500 meters at Deauville, France, on January 4.
